Forum Index > Comm64 can't open all the ports

By: Joni Ihalainen Posted on: Sep 3 2013 at 04:58:58 AM

We were using MSComm32.ocx in our customer's server (32bit) and it worked fine 6 years. Now we started using 64 bit servers and our com port using service freezes randomly like once in a 48 hours. Otherwise it works fine.

I wanted to try your Comm64 component to fix the freezing.

But for some reason when I am using your component, it can only open 1 - 2 ports from total of 6 per try. These ports are not the same each time, they change every time.

Rest of the ports give this error:
Comm64.comPortOperationFailed: Com port could not be opened - Runtime error 8002

I am testing with your trial version first, but that should not be the reason right?

Do you have any idea what could be the reason? Ports that I am trying to connect are Virtual COM ports. MSCOMM32.ocx can always open those ports.

I have no idea what would cause that problem.

The virtual pprt software/driver. Can i get a copy of that? Maybe the supplier has a trial version i could download?

Or do you mean that its a virtual com pprt driver attached to a usb port or some other hardware?

Where would I get information about these ports? I'd like to reproduce this and get it fixed if possible.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I use Advantech's Serial_Device_Server_Configuration_Utility_v1.49_20110905.rar to config virtual COM ports.

Using those Virtual COM-ports I connect to ADAM-4571L devices. Hope this helps ?

For some reason i could not paste direct link to the program

Would you be able to make a small project or c#.
Perhaps just a simple form with a button that opens 4 ports and another button that closes them again.

That should exhibit the problem you've descrived.

Then zip and email that project to us here at

support [at]

We should be able to reproduce the problem and have it fixed.
